How To Play Cornhole

To play cornhole, follow these steps:

  1. Set up the cornhole boards: Place two cornhole boards facing each other, approximately 27 feet apart from the front edge of one board to the front edge of the other. Make sure there is enough space around each board for players to stand and toss the bags.

  2. Mark the pitching area: Draw a line on the ground parallel to the front edge of each board. This line serves as the pitching area behind which players must stand when throwing the bags.

  3. Gather the cornhole bags: Each player or team typically has four cornhole bags of one color. The bags are usually filled with corn kernels or synthetic materials and are rectangular in shape.

  4. Determine the playing order: Decide which player or team goes first. This can be determined by a coin toss, rock-paper-scissors, or any other fair method.

  5. Start the game: The first player from one team stands behind the pitching area and throws their bags towards the opposite cornhole board. The objective is to toss the bag in such a way that it lands on the board or, ideally, inside the hole at the center of the board.

  6. Alternate turns: After the first player throws all their bags, it is the turn of the opposing player or team. Players take turns throwing their bags until all eight bags have been thrown.

  7. Scoring: After all bags have been tossed, calculate the scores. A bag that lands on the board earns one point, while a bag that goes through the hole scores three points. Only one player or team can score in each round.

  8. Canceling points: If both players or teams score an equal number of points in a round, the points cancel each other out. For example, if Player A scores two points and Player B scores three points in a round, Player B earns one point for that round.

  9. Keep playing: Continue playing rounds until one player or team reaches or exceeds a predetermined score (usually 21 or 25). The first player or team to reach or surpass the target score wins the game.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and you can modify the rules to suit your preferences. Have fun playing cornhole!
